Money and Skepticism

Holy Koolaid, a YouTube atheist and skeptic had an extended interview with Phil Ferguson, who applies the principles of skepticism to money management and investing.

The massive takeaway for me listening to the interview (which can drag a little at times because of the technical jiggery pokery of involving audience questions in a livestream) was that once upon a time — which I suppose translates to “pre-internet” — you might have been able to go out and do research on a company, get an inside edge and outperform the market, but this kind of advantage doesn’t survive the massive amounts of person and computer power being constantly thrown at the market by massive firms, that the smart play for an individual is simply to just go with the market rather than listening to people who claim to be able to beat it, because those people are an extinct species (and just don’t realize it yet.)
